BMS Registration and Start of School Information

Due to construction delays at the middle school, there will be changes to the registration process and the start of the school year for Burlington Middle School students. Our middle school office staff will return back to work on August 5th and will be temporarily located at the HIGH SCHOOL. BMS office staff can be reached by calling the high school office at 719-346-8455 between the hours of 8:00-4:00 PM. They may also be reached through email at jcounty@burlingtonk12.org or ppekarek@burlingtonk12.org.

BMS Registration Process – 6th-8th Grade Students and NEW Students

All returning students in grades 6-8th grade should have already received registration packets in the mail. Registration packets need to be completed and dropped off in the HIGH SCHOOL commons area on August 6th, August 7th, or August 8th between 8:00-3:00pm. New students to the district can stop by the high school commons area to pick up a registration packet on the dates/times listed above.

When you come to register your child, you will have the opportunity to pay for school lunches, athletic participation fees, and purchase a school planner for $5. After turning in your completed registration packet, your student will receive his/her class schedule, locker assignment, and 2019-20 school planner.

BMS Registration Process – 5th Grade Students

Registration packets have also been sent out to all incoming 5th graders who were previously enrolled at Burlington Elementary. Those packets need to be completed and returned to Burlington Middle School when students and parents come to the 5th Grade Orientation Night scheduled on Wednesday, August 28th at 6:00 PM. At orientation, families will have the opportunity to pay for school lunches and purchase a school planner for $5. Fifth grade orientation is an important evening event for our 5th graders. They will have a chance to meet their new teachers, obtain their class schedules, have a locker assigned to them, put away their school supplies, and get their questions answered before coming to school on their first day.

BMS First Day of School and Early Testing Dates

The first day of school for BURLINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ONLY will be TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD. Burlington High School will start school on the normal start date of August 19th, and Burlington Elementary will start on the 21st of August (with individual student testing on August 19th and 20th). Again, this change is due to the construction delays at the middle school. At this time, the district does not foresee middle school students needing to add additional instructional days to the school calendar. Instead, one way we plan to save some instructional time is by having our students take their NWEA MAP tests prior to the first day of school this year during the week of August 19th-22nd.

All students are expected to show up at the HIGH SCHOOL main entrance for testing at their scheduled time each day. They will not need any school supplies for these assessments. A small snack will be provided to them each day while they are at the high school.

The BMS “Back to School Barbeque” will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd at 6:00pm in the middle school commons area. Hot dogs and root beer floats will be served. All teachers will be present at this event. It’s an excellent opportunity to reconnect with the returning teachers, meet new teachers in our school, and be informed about the learning that will take place in classes this year.

We truly appreciate your flexibility with the schedule changes as contractors finish up the construction projects in the middle school! If you have any further questions about the building construction, schedule changes, testing, or the registration process, please feel free to contact Mr. Satterly at 719-346-8737 or the BMS office staff at 719-346-8455.
