Math
As the year begins the math classes begin to dig into their books. At the high school we have three teachers who between them all teach College Algebra, College Trigonometry, Pre-Algebra,
Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, and Calculus I and II.

Mr. Jones

Mr. Jones teaches College Algebra and College Trigonometry.

In class they have just begun to work on solving linear functions. College Trigonometry will begin at the next semester and they will be starting some new material and working on some side projects of GPS and surveying.

While talking to Mr. Jones he made a point of saying, "If someone does well in College Algebra and Trigonometry they will do well on the ACT."

Mr. Jones

Mr. Tillitson

Mr. T teaches Algebra I, Pre-Algebra, and Earth Science classes this semester.

In Algebra I, we are starting on Mile Marker #2 which is to be able to graph linear equations.  Proficiency is for every student to pass a test on each of the 5 Mile Markers at 90% correct.  We finished Mile Marker #1 early in December.  Mile Marker #1 was to solve algebraic equations with one variable.  I anticipate reaching proficiency on Mile Marker #2 by mid February.

In Pre-Algebra we have completed Mile Marker #1 which was to achieve 90% on a basic computation test with non-negative rational numbers.  We are into our next Mile Marker which is to find perimeter, area, and volume of basic geometric shapes.

Mr. Tillitson

Mrs. Oldham

Calculus I: Introduces single variable calculus and analytical geometry. Includes limits, continuity, derivatives, and applications of derivatives as well as indefinite and definite integrals and some applications. (fall semester)

Calculus II: Continuation of single variable calculus, which will include techniques of integration, polar coordinates, analytical geometry, improper integrals, and infinite series.

Algebra 2: 2nd semester will include solving equations by factoring, completing the square and the quadratic formula; rational expressions; polynomial functions; radicals; and conic sections.

Geometry: 2nd semester will include quadrilaterals, similar triangles, right triangles, surface area and volume.

New to the math program this year are Mile Markers. These are the five topics in each course that a student absolutely must know to move on to the next course and be successful.
