Third Grade Long Range Goals
Reading
- Phonemic Awareness
- Phonics, Fluency

Parents may contact the teacher to view the binders at any time to check student progress.
Writing
- Sentence Fluency
- Vocabulary Usage
- Conventions
Reading and writing programs will include the following components:
- Demonstrated literacy learning through whole class experience
- Differentiated literacy learning through small group experience
- Directed literacy learning by working independently on very specific goals.
Spelling
- Develop numerous strategies to improve spelling skills
- Listen to, and think about words so they may become fluent writers
- Study words by noticing word patterns
- Differentiate their spelling lists to best meet their individual needs
Correct spelling is expected in daily assignments and published work
Handwriting
- A complete review of all D’Nealian Cursive letters
- Students will be expected to use cursive handwriting in most daily work after we have completed the review of all cursive letters. (Second semester)
Math
Burlington School District will continue to use the Houghton Mifflin Math program.

- Fractions
Social Studies
- Understanding Communities
- Because maps and globes are essential tools to geographers, students will learn to use these basic skills: globe use, map use, map symbols, direction, location, scale, and distances.
- Colorado Awareness: Students will have an overview of basic Colorado facts concluding with a required project.
Science
- Water and Erosion
- Properties of Matter
- Simple Machines
- Life Cycles and Insects
**Students will be asked to complete a science project. They may use their simple machine project or chose another project. These projects will be entered in the Science Fair in January.
