Message from the Principal

Happy Valentines students and parents! I want you to know that every staff member and I have chosen to work with children because we truly care about helping kids become lifelong learners! It is our sincere hope that each student will be successful and happy in life.

During the 2009-2010 school year, the teachers have been diligently working to plan instruction to effectively teach the essential learning targets they have identified in reading, writing and math. They have also been working collaboratively to design assessments that will measure student progress towards learning the targets. I am excited about the level of collaboration the BES staff is demonstrating, and I know it is making a difference for kids!

The staff at B.E.S. is enthusiastic about the progress our students are making! Our recent DIBELS’ winter benchmark results show that students have made excellent progress in their phonemic awareness, phonics and oral reading fluency.

Parent-teacher conferences have been moved to mid-February this year, so that adjustments can be made, if necessary, prior to the 3rd quarter report cards. Please plan to attend at your scheduled time for this valuable communication between parents and teachers.

The Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) is one measure we utilize to measure whether students are learning what we are teaching. Third graders will take the Reading assessment this month. Staff has planned a number of activities to encourage students to do their best! If you have a third grader, please make sure they get a good night’s sleep prior to taking the assessment on February 18th and 19th, and let them know that you are confident that they will do their BEST!

Your enthusiasm for your child’s learning makes a bigger difference than you can imagine! In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882), “When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality…Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”
